Hinepare Marae

Marae Renovations: The kitchen at Hinepare is about to undertake another makeover and be "fitted out". With the addition of a new gas stove, the facelift of our kitchen is underway. Some of the other renovations include a new roof to replace the existing one and repairs to the ablutions block. The current entrance to the marae will also be redesigned and moved.  Renovations will be starting in October. The original toilets that were erected years ago have finally been demolished as the roof had deteriorated. The ground has been recently metalled improving the carpark area.  Once the soil has settled in front of the meeting house there will be a fundraiser to build a paepae, so keep your eyes posted on the website as we will be calling for donations.    Birthday Celebration: On the 26th of August 2006 Nanny Rose (Ngarohi Kaa nee Raroa) celebrated her 88th birthday with her sister Jane and whanau.  It was a great evening with our local band "Ahikaa" who performed live.  Whanau and friends danced all night and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  Nanny Rose reminisces -  “We had a lovely time, a waltzing time, it takes me back to the days when we had bands here. We had the Crazy Cats, Jacob Karaka, Maru Karaka, Hone te Kauru Kaa, Kawa Kaa, Tira Manuel (she could rock the boat on the piano), Winanga Nukunuku and Heni Karaka. We also want to wish Nanny Rose a Happy Belated Birthday for last week.
